David Dalton's interest in painting as a creative form began in college. After graduating from Duke University (1963 & 1972), he continued to paint in his spare time developing his skills. Although his formal training was in a field that left little time to paint, he soon realized the creative urge was stronger than his alotted painting time. He also realized other painters had much to offer from the teaching point of view. Attending numerous workshops from contemporary artists, primarily in transparent watercolor, nurtured this creative urge and assisted him to develop his own style.
In the early 1990's, the world of painting really exploded. David joined artists' organizations, entered shows, and won numerous awards. All this reinforced his creative desire.
He is now retired from his previous profession and has ample time to enjoy the process of creating images in whatever media seems appropriate. His works are primarily in acrylics or mixed media (watercolor, pastel, charcoal and acrylics), and sometimes oil. Dalton says, "The creative process is very challenging in any art form but especially in creating visual images. The challenge is the reward."
Currently, David's studio is in Meggett, SC. His paintings may be seen in the I Pinckney Simons Gallery (www.ipinckneysimonsgallery.com) in Beaufort, SC or by appointment at his studio in Meggett, SC.
